Well, this makes sense. I am all gung-ho about my new exercise plan and it is already over because I overdid it.
I have a stress fracture in the same foot I broke last year. I knew it was hurting before I left, but I laced up and went anyway. Because I am stupid and crazy. Now, I am stuck off the trail for at least two weeks to give it time to heal and I am out of high heels for an equal amount of time. For an added bonus, I may have to acknowledge to the men in my life that I am as brittle and frail as they suspect.
I have to buy a new pair of sneakers, start taking calcium supplements, and try to hide this injury from BFD for as long as I can. We will see how that goes.
Why do I feel the need to hide this from him?
My fragility came up on our first date, when I mentioned (in cute anecdotes!) that I broke my arm 7 years ago and my foot last year. He expressed some concern about my health and asked if I had a calcium deficiency. That may seem weird, but I am auditioning, essentially, to be Mrs. BFD and the mother of little BFDs. I countered later to ask if he felt the need to testosterone supplement, which led to at least a 10 minute discussion. We’re aging and he is handling it far worse than I. He is obsessed with the fact he is aging because of the impact on his athletic performance. Since I have dated active and retired athletes before, I tend to find the aging athlete lament amusing. Sweetie, you are getting old. It is taking longer for you to recover. Suck it up. The sooner you accept it, you will realize you are unbelievable for someone in his mid 30s — and you’re in your 40s. (And hot. Seriously.)
Anyway, I have to resort to non-weight-bearing cardio and I am extremely upset about it. The alternative is far worse — a complete fracture that takes months to heal completely. The good thing about a stress fracture is that being off of it makes it not hurt, unlike a real fracture which hurts all the time.

Oh no! That sucks! Take care of yourself so you can get better and get back on the wagon again.
Oh, but so frustrating. Believe me, I can so relate.
Thanks for your comment.
I am injury-prone and terrified of losing my new-found exercise enthusiasm/obsession, so I pumped up my bike tires for the first time in years* and attached the bike to the trainer. I may not be able to hit the trail for a while, but I can still get in a workout.
* Okay, first time ever. That was my ex’s job. Tonight, I had to borrow the pump from my hot cyclist neighbor and google instructions.
In addition to calcium supplements, I’ve found that the cell salt Calc. Phos. 6X, which should be available in any health food store, helps folks suffering from stress fractures recover much more quickly.
Good luck!
